I was attached to this company sometime in 2006. I must say one thing though, despite it all;the torture, the stress, the ass kissing, one thing i will always appreciate gaining from ME is the sales training. They teach you to be rootless and cunning and scheming and make you do what ever it takes, including working till 2am to call people in the US to participate in an exhibition in KL!…

The negative posts here all come from people who clearly were at this company for an extended period of time.

Any sales driven organization will be similar to marcus evans. Sales targets, pressure, cold calling, they are all part of sales - at any job.

I have been at the company for about aa year and have made about $50k. My manager made $120k, I know this because he is also my friend.

Also any job in the events industry will be similar to marcus evans. It is not an easy job but it can pay very high salaries to those who are focused.

It is what you make of it, I'm happy here.

What a nice surprise!! I have exactly the same experience..I was attending those trainings during which I figured out that they value an unethical sales model. By the end of the second day of that awful speech I knew exactly these guys are kinda annoying sales. I decided to google my concerns and I met number of the same thoughts on the Internet. Just to be clear, sales people are different. There are salesmen who are very intelligent while pitching, they also have a great style, professionalism and a warm tone during the sales process. The other side of the moon are annoying sales with a lack of ethics, they also do not listen to the people and just are interested in money but the client relationships. The greater relationships are the more money you can earn. How they can built those relationships if their sales strategy is based on one call to the client? This is the reason why people who work in that company are not only annoying but also rude. They also speak quickly if you noticed because they do not have time to built the valuable relationships. They are taught to behave as a C-level while being poor prepared and even without any knowledge what does that C title mean. I would highly recommend you look for another job opportunity. Guys, seriously even the manager's salaries are not higher than you can earn in other good companies as a single salesperson. The problem is in the sales model.

Hello All,

I was contacted by Marcus Evans for a sales position at their summit division, London, UK. I went for an interview at 10.30am the following day. I was waiting until ten past 11 and the interview was 1 hour long. The Manager who was interviewing me did not have a single question regarding my education and it was very agressive with his questions and comments (which is expected for a sales role). It was all good until they told me that they do not want nice people people and if I am one, what am i doing in their office. Later on I was told that the base salary was 12k, which is far less than the norm in the industry. Even smaller companies pay about 19k base and same commision structure.

At the end of the interview I was advised that I will be contacted the next day, if they decide to put me forward for the second stage of the recruitment process. I did not heard from them for a day and then I recieve an email with my name (not even Dear Sasha or Hi Sasha)just see below a link to the companies you have to research for your next interview on Monday at 5pm.No one has told me that I have been selected for the second stage and absolutely no personal approach just a generic email, they sent to everyone, it would have . It becomes even better, there was an attachment document stating

"The next step involves some research on your behalf. Your mandate will be to contact these three companies, and obtain the following information. You should not mention our company name or the fact that this is a research project part of an interview process. One of these companies may potentially be the wrong fit; it is up to you to identify which one it is. You may also submit any additional information you have found about the company. Based on your ability to complete this task and the quality of your answers, we will then come back to you with our decision in moving forward with our interview process".

I will let this speak for itself, but in my opinion, highly unethical.

This is not the company for me, however I am sure that there are plenty of people who are very happy at Marcus Evans so I am not intending to critique anyone, or the organisation. My feedback on the process is to hopefully help people make an educated decision on wheather they want to go for an interview or on. I hope this helps

From what I have seen, and from my initial interviews, I think that they offer a pretty lucrative salary structure whereby they actually give their recent grads a base salary plus comm. If the base salary is 20 or 25 per year, well then, that's more then the other jobs I was looking at! I have a bachelor's degree, and real world experience so getting a position with 20 or 25 per year base is amazing. But no they aren't like other marketing companies, sales executives are not expected to work on strait com., go door to door knocking or other stupid things. You are working in an environment an entry level professional should be working in. After a year or two if it's not for you, you have made enough to support yourself, you've gained good training and you'll be ready for a more invigorating position. Stop complaining people. Go back to school if you want to continue to complain and then you have the right!

Hi guys! Got a call a few days ago from ME to go for an interview for a backroom position in the finance dept. I read a lot about the working environment from you guys out there on the sales perspective - anyone can fill me in on what it is like working from the backroom?

oh yah, this company is really bad, but not the worse.

the stuck up culture is absolutely true especially from the HR and the Directors. i was lucky i had a good manager but his hands are tied.

so what is wrong with the company:

1. newbies are expected to trial pitch managers but since no QA's are available, every manager has his/her own style to pitch and they confuse the newbies with arbitrary information

2. their "training school" is also conducted by managers, and managers conducting those sessions often conflict each other when they talk about their "sales process"

3. the HR is always antagonistic and condescending to everyone. no one really knows why. are they overwhelmed? demotivated? trained to be that way? wants to show authority they don't have as a way of enhancing their own self-importance? causing the high turn-over rate so that they can keep their jobs? your guess is as good as mine

is it really a con company? to their employees yes. they have a lot of staff yes, but if you talk to them, these are people who can't find jobs elsewhere (even some of the managers) and that's why they are still around.

Great article. There's a lot of useful information. I did want to let you know something though - I am running Redhat with the latest of Firefox and the design of your blog is kind of quirky for me. I can understand the articles, but the navigation doesn't work so good.

its unbelievable what people start commenting if they fail in doing a job... I am working for a competitor of this co. but with all due respect to all people who came for training and quit, I would actually say please move on instead of crying over it!! maybe its just not for you. Every company has its own work culture. Respect and be a part of it, or simply accept its not for u n get own with your life. I know a lot of people in this co. and for a matter they do make a lot of money and are quite successful in life because of there belief in the company and in its culture.
