good company
This is a garbage and lousy company that uses cheap tactic to con cheap salesman. Warning, don’t be fooled by them.
This is a unfair report on the company, purely because it is giving the perspective from those working in the sales department alone and even that it is unclear. I know of three people working there currently and have been earning way above the average income of their age group and have gotten posted overseas, like in Spain, France and other countries. Fact of the matter is simple, if you are good you will get rewarded based on performance. Its a merit based company without space for losers to work in it. If your one of those who want a 9-5 and expect to laze about at work, this company isnt for you. It isnt for losers, but for driven people.
If you see your passion in conference production… try to link up a blood line to someone in the team. that will help get you a place in the team in no time. research work is not too intense, surf by some competitors webistes or go through marcus evans events in the other contients and rebrand it with a bombastic name and viola… job is all done. if you want something more challenging join sales.
In sales, you get a super low basic, and zero staff benefits. Most sales are taken by the senior executives and managers in the company with much higher commission structure. The bosses makes the most sales with almost no effort. their job is to come up with reasons to justify why they are taking the sale away from you. you have to make a few hundred calls a day and make about a sales a week while the bosses make 4~5 deals in the same period of time with 10 calls a day, enjoying commission of 17% while you slog to enjoy that 10%. All contracts sent out are in the manager’s names which technically means the sales belongs to them.
not much traveling unless u are part of the gang(or is in production), and possibily only to places where the KL boss control, which are penang, bangkok and middle east (this is at level 21 of the same building). There are 3 different sales units, Asia pacfic, middle east and marketing. They hype up the asia pacific division by claiming to look after the region but in actualy fact they are many other offices in the region covering the same region. middle east cold calls into middle east working till late in the night. marketing the bane of the other 2 divisions canabalising any sales that they can get hold of.
plus points - if you are one who enjoy partying, drinking and buttering up.. you will get to the top quick. Free flow of booze and alcohol comes along once every 2 months, which is a big highlight of the month. End of the year party is another superb avenue to get wasted and watch the bosses gets slurry, violent and rac**t….
For those who thrive on big bombastic job titles like International Sales Executive, Regional Asia PAcific execuive, this is the place to be in.
Tips to succeed. to get a payrise or a promotion:
theatren to resign. you will get an adjustment and an ungrade of your job title almost instantly.
have to smoke and hang out at the smoking corner
have to be able ot hold your liqor and must must enjoy laughing along to bosses’s jokes.
or one of the more common and effective method is to get into a relationship with one of the bossess… although there are not that many left that are available to get hitched… but it can be worht your time.
big earnings in this company is all an illusion. everyone normally only remember the big big months. no one remember the months when they bring home their basic. apply to find out more! you will get a call in the next couple of hrs and be offered a position in the evening on the day of the interview…..

Hello All,
I was contacted by Marcus Evans for a sales position at their summit division, London, UK. I went for an interview at 10.30am the following day. I was waiting until ten past 11 and the interview was 1 hour long. The Manager who was interviewing me did not have a single question regarding my education and it was very agressive with his questions and comments (which is expected for a sales role). It was all good until they told me that they do not want nice people people and if I am one, what am i doing in their office. Later on I was told that the base salary was 12k, which is far less than the norm in the industry. Even smaller companies pay about 19k base and same commision structure.
At the end of the interview I was advised that I will be contacted the next day, if they decide to put me forward for the second stage of the recruitment process. I did not heard from them for a day and then I recieve an email with my name (not even Dear Sasha or Hi Sasha)just see below a link to the companies you have to research for your next interview on Monday at 5pm.No one has told me that I have been selected for the second stage and absolutely no personal approach just a generic email, they sent to everyone, it would have . It becomes even better, there was an attachment document stating
“The next step involves some research on your behalf. Your mandate will be to contact these three companies, and obtain the following information. You should not mention our company name or the fact that this is a research project part of an interview process. One of these companies may potentially be the wrong fit; it is up to you to identify which one it is. You may also submit any additional information you have found about the company. Based on your ability to complete this task and the quality of your answers, we will then come back to you with our decision in moving forward with our interview process”.
I will let this speak for itself, but in my opinion, highly unethical.
This is not the company for me, however I am sure that there are plenty of people who are very happy at Marcus Evans so I am not intending to critique anyone, or the organisation. My feedback on the process is to hopefully help people make an educated decision on wheather they want to go for an interview or on. I hope this helps
Seems to be an unethical, slimy, cut throat, lying and conniving Toronto office. It’s a good job if you are a narcissist, and you like to lie and always get your way.
I was there for a 2 day training and had to leave at the end of my second day training, because I was ill. I told one of the Sales managers, BUT, I did not get “permission” from my supervising tyrant’mommy’ and as a consequece broke 1 of the 10 commandments: always tell them what you are doing. A case for a Forensic psychologist!
It seems like she may get sued for violating HR policies on illness.
How much was the base salary? I’m supposed to be going for an interview and now i really don’t want to!
What a nice surprise!! I have exactly the same experience..I was attending those trainings during which I figured out that they value an unethical sales model. By the end of the second day of that awful speech I knew exactly these guys are kinda annoying sales. I decided to google my concerns and I met number of the same thoughts on the Internet. Just to be clear, sales people are different. There are salesmen who are very intelligent while pitching, they also have a great style, professionalism and a warm tone during the sales process. The other side of the moon are annoying sales with a lack of ethics, they also do not listen to the people and just are interested in money but the client relationships. The greater relationships are the more money you can earn. How they can built those relationships if their sales strategy is based on one call to the client? This is the reason why people who work in that company are not only annoying but also rude. They also speak quickly if you noticed because they do not have time to built the valuable relationships. They are taught to behave as a C-level while being poor prepared and even without any knowledge what does that C title mean. I would highly recommend you look for another job opportunity. Guys, seriously even the manager’s salaries are not higher than you can earn in other good companies as a single salesperson. The problem is in the sales model.
low basic salary?how low is low?mind sharing with us the figure?
ya, mind share the salary?
totally Agree with Sam. I was attached to this company sometime in 2006. I must say one thing though, despite it all;the torture, the stress, the ass kissing, one thing i will always appreciate gaining from ME is the sales training. They teach you to be rootless and cunning and scheming and make you do what ever it takes, including working till 2am to call people in the US to participate in an exhibition in KL!…
No for the faint of heart i must say. But an experience none the less

Hi I went for a job interview at Marcus Evans KL, was offered sales exec under for ME & Africa region.
Kindly share with me how was it like working as sales exec in Marcus Evans..
honestly , i was totally not into Sales and applied for conference producer but they offered sales instead. I was only attracted to the commission & international transfer of the company. The staff seems to be very friendly as far as I have seen them.
Hope you all can share with me your knowledge abt that company. Thanks!!
got a phone call from this company, and base salary is from 20k- they emphazise about commition, but it seems like, it does not work on that plan.
rejected to have an interview.
its unbelievable what people start commenting if they fail in doing a job… I am working for a competitor of this co. but with all due respect to all people who came for training and quit, I would actually say please move on instead of crying over it!! maybe its just not for you. Every company has its own work culture. Respect and be a part of it, or simply accept its not for u n get own with your life. I know a lot of people in this co. and for a matter they do make a lot of money and are quite successful in life because of there belief in the company and in its culture.
ya its true agree with you GUUD, i cant believe wat u guys talking about, im here in this company for 2 weeks, penang office but it seems to be totaly opposiite of wat r u guys talking bout. its kinda fun in here.
every seniors and managers are very helpfull. They can even help you to find lead at the beginning if yoour strugling. They also always motivates you if you have any problem like your down becoz of ppl blushing you off byy the fon, the mangers here will help on your feelings too….and its not a quiet environment to work….always will have the fire in you to work in this office
Great article. There’s a lot of useful information. I did want to let you know something though - I am running Redhat with the latest of Firefox and the design of your blog is kind of quirky for me. I can understand the articles, but the navigation doesn’t work so good.
marcus evans singapore wants you to have a hons 1st class degree but will only pay you the salary of a truck driver. the culture is horribly wrong. i fired the interviewer for treating me like a fool.
oh yah, this company is really bad, but not the worse.
the stuck up culture is absolutely true especially from the HR and the Directors. i was lucky i had a good manager but his hands are tied.
so what is wrong with the company:
1. newbies are expected to trial pitch managers but since no QA’s are available, every manager has his/her own style to pitch and they confuse the newbies with arbitrary information
2. their “training school” is also conducted by managers, and managers conducting those sessions often conflict each other when they talk about their “sales process”
3. the HR is always antagonistic and condescending to everyone. no one really knows why. are they overwhelmed? demotivated? trained to be that way? wants to show authority they don’t have as a way of enhancing their own self-importance? causing the high turn-over rate so that they can keep their jobs? your guess is as good as mine
is it really a con company? to their employees yes. they have a lot of staff yes, but if you talk to them, these are people who can’t find jobs elsewhere (even some of the managers) and that’s why they are still around.
That is the truth. They hire people who do not have any other chance to find a job.
i got an offer from marcus evans in singapore, just wondering how much is the pay like over there?is there any basic?if yes how much is it?
Hi guys! Got a call a few days ago from ME to go for an interview for a backroom position in the finance dept. I read a lot about the working environment from you guys out there on the sales perspective - anyone can fill me in on what it is like working from the backroom?
From what I have seen, and from my initial interviews, I think that they offer a pretty lucrative salary structure whereby they actually give their recent grads a base salary plus comm. If the base salary is 20 or 25 per year, well then, that’s more then the other jobs I was looking at! I have a bachelor’s degree, and real world experience so getting a position with 20 or 25 per year base is amazing. But no they aren’t like other marketing companies, sales executives are not expected to work on strait com., go door to door knocking or other stupid things. You are working in an environment an entry level professional should be working in. After a year or two if it’s not for you, you have made enough to support yourself, you’ve gained good training and you’ll be ready for a more invigorating position. Stop complaining people. Go back to school if you want to continue to complain and then you have the right!
The negative posts here all come from people who clearly were at this company for an extended period of time.
Any sales driven organization will be similar to marcus evans. Sales targets, pressure, cold calling, they are all part of sales - at any job.
I have been at the company for about aa year and have made about $50k. My manager made $120k, I know this because he is also my friend.
Also any job in the events industry will be similar to marcus evans. It is not an easy job but it can pay very high salaries to those who are focused.
It is what you make of it, I’m happy here.

industrial studio to a crisp blue sky hovering over a cool lake surrounded by trees swaying in the wind. I look forward to getting lost in the song out there.
